Refrigerator smells

Food smell is a cleaning job. A sharp, ammonia-sweet chemical smell from an absorption fridge is a cooling-unit problem — stop using it and ventilate.

If you smell ammonia at the fridge vents or inside the box, turn the fridge off, air the coach, and treat it as a failed cooling unit. Don’t keep running it.

Ruled out ammonia/chemical smell (if present, fridge is off and coach is ventilated). Emptied the box. Tossed anything questionable. No “maybe” leftovers. Cleaned the drip pan / drain — that’s where juice hides. Wiped door gaskets and the underside of shelves. Open box of baking soda or fridge gel in place after it dries. Exterior fridge vents are clear so the unit can reject heat. A hot fridge spoils food and smells. Coach is reasonably level. Absorption fridges hate a tilt. If storing: fridge empty, off, doors cracked, no food left “for next time.”
